About these Manhattan Neighborhoods
The Realty Company offers apartments in several New York City neighborhoods, but the majority of the units are located in the Hudson Heights and Inwood neighborhoods in Manhattan. This is the northern most section of Manhattan, north of the GW Bridge, bordered by the Hudson and Harlem rivers.
Once home to Irish and Jewish immigrants, the neighborhood more recently has been occupied by the Latin American immigrants with pockets of Russian immigrants. Today, it is one of the best-kept secrets as far as neighborhoods, in Manhattan. The apartments are proportionally larger than many downtown units and the rents and are much more reasonable than anywhere else in Manhattan. This quiet, tree-lined neighborhood has many parks and scenic river views. As a result, many young professionals, artists, singers, actors, and Broadway stagehands are moving to this area.
Inwood and Hudson Heights are almost entirely residential neighborhoods with minimal commercial development. Small neighborhood shops are plentiful (coffee shops, cleaners, pharmacies, etc.). The A train, also known as the Eighth Avenue Express, will get you to midtown (59th Street) in about 20 minutes, so access to midtown is relatively quick and inexpensive.
Another advantage of Inwood/Hudson Heights is the ease of maintaining a car in this neighborhood (an extreme rarity in Manhattan). Parking is more readily available in addition to the quick access to the George Washington Bridge to New Jersey where prices are known to be less than Manhattan and the sales tax is 2% less as well.
